Diabetes - Important Info Regarding Lucozade

Important Changes to Lucozade and other sugary drinks which will affect diabetic patients who use these to manage hypoglycaemia

Lucozade have already begun rollout of new formulae across their product range from April 2017. The change to Lucozade Original is as follows:

 Old recipe of Lucozade Original

New recipe of Lucozade Original

Per 100ml

Per 100ml

Carbohydrate

17g

Carbohydrate

8.9g

For the new recipe, this means that patients will have to drink approximately 120mls of the new formula Lucozade Original to ingest 10g of carbohydrate.

For patients unable to tolerate the higher volume of fluids, combining with carbohydrate supplement such as MaxiJul will achieve the required amount of carbohydrate, for example:

60ml Lucozade Original + one 5g scoop of Maxijul = 10g of carbohydrate.

All drinks across the Lucozade range are changing, not just "Original". There will be a mix of old and new formula products on the shelves for some time so it is important to check the nutritional information on each product
